Help with place names
« on: Saturday 28 October 06 06:00 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone

As per my Jenkins post, I've been to look at the records of some of my ancestors.  New information I have found is the name of the places two of my ancestors lived at the time of their son's baptism in 1825 (David Jenkin and Gwenllian Jenkin - they were unmarried at the time).

The places are:-
Pontehydaff (David Jenkin)
Craig Thydoe (Gwenllian Jenkin)

That's the best I can make out, but I know David was from the parish of Llangynwyd and Gwenllian was from the parish of Bettws, where their son Rees was baptised, and where David and Gwenllian were later married in 1830.

Does anyone have an idea of the places these could be, with the correct spelling?  Any help would be much appreciated to help me continue my search.

Sally.

Could the Bettws one be Craig yr Hudol and the Llangynwyd one Pontrhyd y Cyff ? If you look at the pages on Genuki for the two parishes, there's a list of the villages within those parishes which will give you something to compare.
Cornwall: Allen, Bevan, Bosisto, Carnpezzack, Donithorn, Huddy, James, Retallack, Russell, Vincent, Yeoman
Cards: Thomas (Llanbadarn Fawr)
Glam: Bowler, Cram, Galloway, James, Thomas, Watkins
Lincs: Coupland, Cram
Mon: Cram, Gwyn, John, Philpot, Smart, Watkins
Pembs: Edwards (St. Dogmael's)
Yorks: Airey, Bowler, Elliott, Hare, Hewitt, Kellett, Kemp, Stephenson, Tebb

Hi Sally, you could try this link, scroll to Glamorgan.

Someone has offered look ups for Llangynwyd (CB 1662-1901, M1662-1838)

http://www.parishregisteruklook-upexchange.co.uk/parishregisters.htm

May give you some info on David?

Hope it helps

Cas
