Looking for John Bevan born 1806/07 Clevedon Somerset.
« on: Sunday 29 October 06 21:20 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody help?
I am looking for the baptism of and hence the parents of John Bevan.
According to the 1851,1861 & 1871 censuses, he was born at Clevedon, Somerset.
From the 1841 census he would have been born 1805/06.
From the 1851 census he would have been born 1806/07
From the 1861 census he would have been born 1809/10
From the 1871census he would have been born 1805/06
From his death certificate he would have been born 1803/04.
Many thanks in anticipation of you help
Regards
Brian

Cas,
Thanks for the link, there is one posible candidate in the link:
John[2-9-05] Beavan parents John & Ann on 15th January 1809 STAN.

Can you advise what the[2-9-05] stands for? Does it mean that he was born 2nd September 1805?
Is the church STAN mean St Ann's church?

There is also a David Beavan baptised the same day.
The  problem is now to prove that the baptism is the one I am after.
Many thanks for your help

Hi Cas,
Many thanks for your reply.
I think that the best option is to get a copy of the original baptism record.
Sorry about the delay replying, have had to dome some decorating!!!

Hiya

Do you know if he died in Clevedon?
I'm from Clevedon - and although live near Portsmouth now regularly go back to visit family.

If you can find out if he died and possibly any other info (like which church) I could try and find his grave and take a photo of his headstone for you which should have his date of birth on it.

Hi Alidadas,
The John Bevan I am after, married Ann Denmaid at  Bristol St James in October 1830 and John Bevan died St James Bristol in 1880. So there will not be a grave in Clevedon
Can you tell me the name of the church in Clevedon? Is there a St Ann's?

Hi

It's probably St Andrews.

I'll have a look at the parish records in the library here at Weston super Mare this week.  I know they got them for most of the Somerset villages around here, so they should have Clevedon's.

If not, I shall be going down to the county archives in a few weeks time and I'll add it to my list of look ups.

Cheers

Hi Ian,
Thanks for your reply.
From the information earlier in this topic  nd the web site listed http://www.clevedon-civic-society.org.uk/records.htm I believe the best option is
John[2-9-05] Beavan parents John & Ann on 15th January 1809 STAN.

I had assumed that STAN stood for St Annes but as you say it stands for St Andrews. It would be great if you get me a transcript of the the above record.
Many thanks
