Look up request for TARRANT-BAILEY family **COMPLETED**
« on: Tuesday 31 October 06 13:48 GMT (UK) »
I have been told that - maybe - my Emma Bailey born about 1853 Bath, could be an illegitimate child of a member of the Tarrant-Bailey family.  ???  ???

Emma married William Pow Bath 1871, she was with her grandparents in the 1861 census.

The Baileys and Pows all lived in Bath.  :)

Can anyone say if the Bailey and Tarrant families are connected from any of the censuses  ???

Bath BMD http://www.bathbmd.org.uk/ gives the mother's maiden name for all births.  There is an Emma Bailey b. 1853 with no mother's maiden name, so presumably the illegitimate daughter of a female Bailey....

This is probably the grandparents' marriage:

Samuel Challenger m. Mary Ann Bailey (aka Mary Ann Cornwall), Bath, St Swithin's Walcot (Paragon) in 1848.

Mary Ann was either born Bailey and married a Mr Cornwall before marrying Samuel Challenger, or was born Cornwall and married Mr Bailey - impossible to tell without buying the cert...  :(

I've come across this post rather late.  Tarrant Bailey and Tarrant Bailey Jr were famous UK banjo players.  I think Tarrant was a first name.  I've not seen the two names hyphenated before.  My father played piano in Tarrant Bailey's Bath Banjo Band and is shown in the 1930s photo well known to banjo enthusiasts.  Forgive me if this post is way off topic, Muffin41.

Hi

Pleased to have a reply after nearly two years :D

I was researching this topic for another person.

We have the same ancestor - BAILEY - and she knew that one of them was TARRANT-BAILEY. We both thought that this was two different families. :-\ And not one person.

Would you be willing to send me a personal message with the photo? That would be interesting :)

Regards,

Hoping this thread may still be looked at as I came into the possession of what is believed to be Tarrant Bailey Sr.’s Balalaika that was recently restored and looking for a little bit more history on both him and the family! Any info greatly welcomed!
