Jane Roberts Lysfaen
« on: Tuesday 31 October 06 23:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi ,
I have for many years been looking for parents too my Elizabeth Ann Roberts born April about 1853/4 and in Census she always says Born Denbigh!

I believe, her mother may have been Jane Roberts of Lysfaen ........ born about 1824 to David and Cathrine Roberts  of Lysfaen ,
Jane Roberts later married in 13th dec  1867  in Carmel Chapel Lysfaen  she was 43yrs
A Richard Evans  42  lab his X son OF William Evans ,
witness's were,
Evan Evan Davies and Elleneor  Davies
Jane Signed.
Richard was a Widower in 1861 and living with his brother Edward Evans. in Abergele

I also believe he had a son to his 1st wife but not with him on the 61 Census  :(.

1871 they have two children John H Evans10 and Thomas Evans 2 yr living in Church Street Abergele.
Ann Roberts 7mths Boarder  Llandullas
Visitors
Thomas Williams  and Mary Wlliams his wife from Wrexham she was born BARMOUTH .
Ihave no idea who my great grannie was bar a link on the
Abergele  1881 Census  ..
Were Richard Evans is there with his wife JANE son Thomas  and child,
Mary Ann Abbott grand daughter 3yrs born Rhyl...
I think this child is the child Of Elizabeth Ann Roberts..... later to be called Eliz Ann Abbott who lived and died the rest of her life in Rhyl after the birth of this child...
who wasnt born in Rhyl as per 81 Census but Wepre  Connahs Q by the Smithy 1878 as Mary Ann Abbott ...
Elizabeth Ann Had a child earlier,Sarah Ellen Roberts..... who she did not have bapt  it was noted in the records for the union .
Sept   1872 in St Asaph but Sarah was later bapt when she had her children  bapt , but this time as Sarah Ellen  Owens
(parents (Abbott)...... Her father must have been Thomas Abbott born Llanefyd 1847 to Ann Abbott nee Jones.
this is what I have at the moment  please has anyone a link to her in any way .
Thanks very much for reading this.

Hi Mary, have you also looked in Caernarfonshire? Llysfaen used to be a detached enclave of that county up until, ISTR the formation of Colwyn Bay Borough out of the parishes of Llandrillo-yn-Rhos, Colwyn, part of Llanelian-yn-Rhos (all Denbighshire) and Llysfaen. It may have been enumerated with Denbigh for convenience, I agree.

I once talked to an old man who had taken part in the ceremony of "beating the buonds" of Llysfaen parish. That the custom lasted so long might be associated with the residents' wish to distinguish themselves from the aliens of Denbighshire who had taken them over!

All best, Chris

Hi and thanks Chrisfor the information,
THis really is a problem,
Roberts that is , because I know nothing about my great Gran Elizabeth ann Roberts  and until I get a link I an scuppered.
She seemed to drop her kids off in different places...
She has Sarah Ellen Roberts in the st asaph work house
but Im sure she left her with her Grannie in Llannefydd weres he was enumerated as Sarah Ellen Jones who had been Ann Abbott married Thomas Abbott 1844 seemed to be abandoned with three children Ellin  Abbott Thomas Abbott and Mary Abbott....
she was the caretaker of the Bryn Chapel  Llannefyd were I think she either remarried or reverted to her maiden name..
Terrible lot they are ,
But thanks for Answering Mary x
