Hi Cas/Gadget,
I've received the marriage bond but unfortunately it doesn't hold any more information.
It is just a letter stating that there is no reason why William Lewis may not marry Jane Jones and stating that they are both over 21 (and not related).
It doesn't say why they chose to get married by license, but perhaps it 's because Jane's mother was also a Lewis?
Perhaps they didn't want people putting two and two together and getting five
After going back through all the information I have so far (thanks
) I have come to the conclusion that Jane's mother was Jane Lewis (who died in 1820) and that Mary must've been Jane's sister from before she was married (although according to my calculations that would make Jane Lewis about 12 when she gave birth...).
I am also happy that Williams father must have been Edmund as although I cannot find a definite link (so far), his age at marriage, death and in the census would mean William was born in 1806 in Whitchurch. this fits nicely with Edmund and Rachel according to the parish index.
Two of the witnesses at William and Janes wedding were Edmund and Sarah Lewis.
I think Sarah would've been his sister but I don't know if Edmund was his father or his brother.
I can't seem to find any more info on Mary or Jane Lewis though (other than their dates of death/burial), so I'm off to the lookup requests to see if anyone can help.
Thanks again for your help
Bryan.
