Hi Ambly

Thomas Ebden was born in Barnsley in 1855. Sarah Brown his wife was born in Manchester in 1859. and they had 10 children . Elizabeth  (1877)and John (1877) born in Spennymore  and I think the youngest  was Amos born in Middlesbrough in 1898.

Not sure if Sarah & James are "together" or if the enumerator has erred in naming her MOAT.

And, I think Thomas is visting in Durham.....hang on!

This is the only Thomas I found to fit (not Durham, my mistake - actually Yorkshire) - it says he is single.....Did yours have a middle name Henry?

Hi Ambly
No I think the Thomas is wrong as this Thomas was a Grocer not an iron works worker. But the other family was right. Although why Sarah was recorded as 'Moat' I am not sure. I have no record of Thomas's death but that might be a reason.
Thanks Denise

Hi Ambly
Just to clarify things . I found out that Thomas Ebden had died in 1876 and Sarah his wife had married a J Moat in 1895. He was a soldier and the lodger living there in 1901was her brother in law  :)
Thanks for all your help
