Divorce records 1930's
« on: Saturday 04 November 06 12:58 GMT (UK) »
I've been not around for a while, but since Anna's WDYTYA query seems to have been answered, can I ask another one please?

On one of the progs (I think it was Nigella) they looked up someone's divorce papers from the late 1930's. I didn't think that was possible, my grandparents were divorced at about that time and I would dearly like to know a bit more about it. Can anyone shed any light?

Much appreciated folks

hi Vernon
when i was at there records center in London i was shocked to find you can obtain divorce records from the family courts at Holburn i think you have to go there and give details on the people who were divorced i also think the fee was £5 i will try to find out more details for you and get back to you.

i have checked the info i have on divorces and case files before 1938 can be found at the national archives at kew in record series j77 they are original documents and have not been micro filmed so are not available at the family records center. however microfilm copies of the index to them can be seen at the family records center and also at kew in record series j78 remember if you also want information on the cause of the divorce ask for the decree and nisi as well as the degree absolute.
i'm not sure i can give you the phone  number here so i will pm you with details hope this helps
