I'm confused! Keadby Yorkshire or Thorne Lincs??
« on: Saturday 04 November 06 16:25 GMT (UK) »
Being a southern lass, I have no knowledge of local geography north of Winchester :)  Well, a little, but it's not good.  So today I decided to research my Father-in-laws roots & do a tree for his Christmas present.  I already had some info but am now confused.  His Grandfather was Charles POPPLEWELL b 1852...registered in Thorne, Lincs but all the census records say born in KEADBY YORKSHIRE.
Please can someone put me straight?  I tried to Google them both but it didn't make sense to me.  Is Keadby close to Lincs or am I totally barking up the wrong tree??

Many thanks!

Hi Debbie,

Haven't got a map to hand, but it could lie on the county border...

Regards, Emma ;)

Hi Emma,

Thanks for that.  I've just got back to the 1851 census for Charles' parents, William & Mary.  Again they're in Keadby but this time the returns state Keadby LINCS, the ones from 1861 on, say Yorks.  It also gives the reg district as Thorne, so I think I've solved the puzzle!!  Maybe I should dig further before asking daft questions in the future!!!

Enjoy your week-end.

Debbie

Many thanks Ricky.  Well it's kept me busy this afternoon!  My father-in-law is very proud to be a Yorkshire man & was shocked when I found the Lincs connection previously.  Maybe he can claim his 100% Yorkshire blood lines after all!!

I think I'll stick to gift vouchers in the future:)

Love the pic of your best friend.

hi Debbie

You can tell your father in law that there is nothing wrong in being a Lincolnshire Yellow Belly ;D ;D ;D
