Louisa and family in 1851 - in Calne, Wilts.

Doesnt quite match her PoB stated in 1861, but age is spot-on.

Does the Father match the name on her Marriage Cert ?

Hi Steve
Are they the couple on 1861, with eldest daughter Eliza age 11, both born Littleton Drew Wilts? Other chd. John & Samuel?
Cheers
AMBLY

Ah, yes, thanks ScRoppers  ;D I see it now - I wondered if Eliza 11 may have really been a sister to one of them! I see she is 1 but enumerator made adding marks by her age making  her look like 1111  ;D

According to the 1861, Francis Snell was born in Littleton Drew, but he's elusive in 1851 .... wait one ...

PS. Ambly, I think that lass must be either 11 months maybe 1 year - they married in 1856 ...

so far the only Snell I can find in 1851, born 1837 +/- 5 years in Littleton Drew, is a John - working on a farm in Nettleton - which is a good link to the 1861 family....

Theres a birth record for a John in the Chippenham Dist, but not yet a Francis transcribed in FreeBMD ..

I'll have a look in 1841

Hi Steve,

Are we all working from this 1861 entry?

Francis, 24, b. Littleton Drew
Louisa, 29, b. Higton St. Michael
John, 4, b. Nettleton
Samuel, 2, b. Yatton Keynall
Eliza Maria, 1, b. Nettleton

If this is them, then there is an interesting 1851 entry.  As ScRoppers said, no Francis Snell, age 14, b. Littleton Drew, but get this:

1851
HO107/1836/8/9
Littleton Drew, Wiltshire
Edwin Hall, Head, 42, Journeyman Mason
Matilda Hall, Wife, 37
Maria Hall, Daur, 18
Frances Hall, Daur, 14
Eliza Snell, Daur, 11
George Snell, Son, 8

All born Littleton Drew.

Wierd huh?  The surname clearly changes to Snell.  They are the only Snells in Littleton Drew.

There is also the John Snell, age 12, servant in Nettleton, born Littleton Drew.

Off to check the 1841 for Snells in Littleton Drew...

Oh, this will throw a wrench in the works - the 1841 for Littleton Drew has not survived!

1841 has different Parish arrangements in the 'Hundreds' - w/o yet checking the PIECE numbers in the NA, Luckington may figure as part of Chippenham admin area - theres a Frances Snell, but born 1826 - too old - son of a James and Phoebe.

Steve - do u have the Marriage Cert - does Frances name his Father ?

PS. Just saw what MJP found !
