Parish Records were kept from the 1500s (after Henry VIII made the split from Mother Church) - basically they record Baptisms , Marriages etc etc - many Parishes' Registers were transcribed by the Mormons, and many of the original records are still extant in County Archives. After 1837, Registers were still kept, but the introduction of Civil Regn gave us a more accessible way of seeking BMD data.

www.familysearch.org .... it allows you to go straight to a Parish and search the Registers - you will see two columns - Baptisms on the left, Marriages on the right - click on the underlined 'Batch Number' and a new window opens allowing you to search those local registers by surname - spelling doesnt have to be exact.
Try it and come back if you have questions ... but you may have to broaden your search for a marriage, as often the ceremony was in the Brides domicile .... to do this either use the FamilySearch URL above, or click 'Refine Search' on the page you end up on, and enter full details (deleting the 'Batch Number Field content...
