in carrick on suir, where was ballyquirkeen
« on: Tuesday 07 November 06 16:27 GMT (UK) »
i would be greatfull on any help. as i am trying to find out where my dads family lived in the 40's for a long time our name is Dunne, and until about 10 years ago, my mum was writing letters to ballyquirkeen in carrick on suir county Tipperary. i have found a bit of history on the house, and its owners, but i feel if its big then my family may of lived and worked on the land. i don't think ballyquirkeen is still there, but would love to know where it was, so we could take my elderly dad back as that is his wish

Welcome to roots chat hope you enjoy using the site. Can#t help you to locate the house unfortunately but we had a wonderful holiday in Carrick on Suir this summer. Can I suggest you e mail Tippfm the local radio station ? We met Aaron and Aoife of the eye opener show while we were there and i;m sure they would find the house for you

Hi, I wish that I had found your post before. My mom's grandmother was Bridget Dunne from Ballyquirkeen. My mother was brought up by her grandmother. The home and fields were sold some years back. The proceeds paid for Bridget to live in a private nursing home until she died at aged 93. The original house has been knocked down. My mother has sadly died Nov 2014. She appointed a solicitor who's family had a big farm near to where she was reared. I have recently attended the solicitor's office in Carrick. he knew the Dunnes family very well. I will try and leave you a personal message with my email address.

This may be of interest to Munchiecater.
The death has occurred of John
Mandaville Hanrahan
Ballycurkeen House, Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary.
This notice was 23rd June 2023. It appears Ballyquirkeen House is still there. Not sure if this is the family munchiecarter is thinking about.

Thank you Kiltaglassan. I know of the family who lived in that house. My great grandfather worked for the owner at one time and they were quite friendly, as they were also neighbours. My great grandparents’ name was Dunne. Unlike the owners of Ballyquirkeen house my ancestors’ offsprings did not continue to live in the family home. Their house has since been knocked down, and a new house has been built on the land. Interesting times!
