Howarth's '71 and '91 please
« on: Wednesday 08 November 06 05:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi, this is a little complex so bare with me.

The focal point of this search is JOHN HOWARTH born abt 1865 in Rochdale who is easy to find on 1891 and 1901 census' living with his wife Eliza (nee Bridgens) and latter there children.

Can't find a concrete match in 1881 so is there anything of interest in 1871?

If it helps it seems he likes to stick around the Spotland area of Rochdale.

My other search is actully a celeb search!

See my grandfather has always told us he is somehow related to JACK HOWARTH who played Albert Tatlock in Corrie and i'm trying to find out if this is indeed true and if so how are they related.

A search of the internet tells me a bit about the life of Jack and the most important is that he wasn't cristened Jack but John Aubery C Howarth
born 19th Feb 1896 in Rochdale.

A little info on his life says he was the son of comieden Bert Howarth, unfortunaly on the 1901 census he is listed as living with His grandmother (forget her first name) TOWNSEND and her daughter Minnie Townsend.
Whether John (Jack) is Minnie's son or not i don't know.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Jonathan

This is interesting re the Townsends
1891 Minnie at home and a daughter Amelia. They also have boarders - a theatrical manager and an actress. None of the family or boarders were born Rochdale.
Amelia might have married a Richard Howarth in 1894.
A further check in 1901 shows Amelia and Richard lving with his mother, his brother Whatmough and sister Mary D.
He is a twister of grey cloth - no theatre connection as yet.

The one who I assume is yours in 1901 is a manager drug store.
In 1891 - a druggists assistant.
1881 has John born c 1867- grocer assistant(Castleton parish); born 1863-Post office clerk (Spotland parish); 1863 grocer's assistant (Spotland parish).
Others have an additional name-not just John.
It is difficult then to be sure in 1871 without a father's name. Do you have a birth certificate at all?
best wishes

Other oddities...
Richard Howarth's family have a James Whatough lodging with them (remember they had a son Whatmough so perhaps that is a Mrs H's maiden name??)
1881 also has a Herbert Howarth aged 6 yrs staying with grandparents -Whatmough in Wardle.
Can't find him afterwards.
All this is a digression though so good luck
