....and in the 1881, with a couple more surprises!!

RG11/2649 Folio 119 Page 28
25 Benyon Street, Shrewsbury (parish of St Mary)

Clement Eaton Head M 38 Sgt Major Volunteers born Ireland
Sarah Mary Eaton Wife M 36 born Ireland
Arthur Eaton Son Unm 14 Wine & Spirit Clerk  born Ireland
Clement G Eaton Son Unm 12 Scholar born Essex Colchester
Anastasia Eaton Dau Unm 9 Scholar born Devon Devonport
Sarah E Eaton Dau Unm 7 Scholar born York Middlebro
Edward M Eaton Son 4 born Ireland
Frederick Eaton Son 2 born Liverpool
Walter P Eaton Son 1 month born Shrewsbury

That answers my query from the entries in the 1891 - I did wonder what a Volunteer Instructor was, but can now see that Clement Snr was in the Army, which confirms why the family moved around so much.

I've had a look in 1861 and can't see them, so guess Clement and Sarah were possibility still in Ireland.

As far as Irish ancestry goes, I have absolutely no idea about it!!!!  I suggest that you post a request for help on the Ireland board http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,50.0.html

Also, it may be worth you putting details of Clement's army details in the Armed Forces board - someone there should be able to find out further information for you  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,300.0.html

Thankyou LLoydy very much for all the information which will hopefully help me to solve a family mystery that i have. I wanted to find out about the Eaton family after i was given a photograph of my Grandmother. My grandmother, Ada Mary Tarte 1889 . I THINK had a very sad childhood. Her mother Theresa Tarte nee Buckley 1866 died in 1911 age 45 but i,ve been told that Ada and her two sisters were bought up by an "Auntie", who was not a real aunty !.Her father William Tarte  1867 went to Ontario in Canada leaving his 3 daughters behind ? !!
Anyway the photo i have is dated 1905 my grandmother is on the right and on the back of the photo it says Molly Mahony ,Auntie, and Frances Eaton Seated.
going to Japanese bazaar.
I know the family were strong catholics and apparently Ada wanted to become a nun (then she met my grandad !!)So i,m wondering whether it was a sort of church organisation that might have helped with placing Ada with an "Auntie"?Could the elder lady be an Eaton or Mahony? I look at the photo wishing they could tell me !!!! I HOPE one day to find an Eaton who might be able to identify Frances
