There's only the two of them!
!901 belton
Crabbie lane
John Smith Brooks Head 60 Corn Miller Yorks Barnsley
Martha R wife 60 Yorks Thorne

RG13 4417 51 9

I wonder where the children went?

It seems they always knew their father was Richard -they changed their names to his  probably after he married/lived with them.
as you say -what a woman was Martha!

By the way, I think this is more likely to be Richard's death reg

Thank you yet again Suz.

I think Sarah's money came from a mill in Keighley: Cabbage Croft Mill. A John and a Joseph figured prominently in Keighley and her first two chn were John (1841) and Joseph (1845) but that still doesn't tell me where the Kettlewell money came from.

Do you have access to the 1841 Census? I think they would be in Bradford. Richard would be 24 and Sarah 25. They would have John maybe.

Do you know how I could find out about wills?

The gingerbread costumes are not coming on well ........... sleeves are murder to get in ........ at least all the collars are made ...... 83 metres of binding! And I think I'm volunteering!!

Cheers

I found this 1841 census a while ago-but didn't think the occupation of Richard was what you would expect him to be doing???
Also trying to find his mother Fanny in 1841 -no luck yet-but will keep trying

Had another look at 1851 and think Sarah is Naomi-maybe she went by that name???

Have found the following
0n IGI
Christening
3 Aug 1817 Althorpe Lincs
Richard kettlewell
parents Robert/Nanny

marriage
9 Jan 1811
Althorpe
Robert Kettlewell
Nanny Cundal

In  1851 Richard was with his mother Fanny and sister Hannah
Cannot find Fanny on any other census -possibly because she was Nanny???

Nanny Kettlewell 55 N
Hannah Kettlewell25 Dressmaker N
Bethia Blakey 50 Dressmaker Y
HO107/1297/3 26 2

wonder if the Hannah is the Hannah Leather who Richards first wife was with in 1871 - described as sister in law?

Think this is Nanny's death
FreeBMD
mar qtr 1855 Thorne Lincs

There is also a birth of a Nanny Kettlewell in 1846 in York-and a death 1847 York -possibly this was a child of the family?

also found this -possible brother of Richard??

Think the Hannah Kettlewell (with Nanny) in 1841 is very possibly the Hannah Leather of 1871-and Richard's sister

Oh well......... there I was ........ after all those ag labs and coal hewers grasping at a connection to WEALTH (however tenuous) and it slips away.  Hey Ho ... back into the hole!

I feel these must be THEM.
He is younger than she and born out of Yorkshire.
They have a John.

Oh ........ just seen your second message.

Richard did have siblings Robert, Hannah, John and Berrier.(Sibling search IGI)

Well, there's not much else to find really. you seem to have it all.

Take care

Pat

Oh .......... now a third message! I love these middle names ......... such clinches! The "Lancs Headly" is actually "Lincs Keadby".

There's  still a rags to riches for Nanny/Fanny ........ from Bradford back to the big houe in Belton in 10 years.
