That was terrific - thanks a billion for that.
Houses were not what we expected though (smaller) - but never mind.

Looks like we are back to basics now though, because, although the tombstone shows a lot of the known Blakeboroughs from living memory - it does now give us a headache.

As we were not exactly sure about Henry's age, the tombstone confimed that he was 44 - born in 1816 or there abouts; which means we have the wrong Henry in our records.  The Henry we have (son of Henry) was born in Pately Bridge in the late 1700's meaning he is to old. There is an Henry in 1816 (again son of Henry) elswhere in Yorkshire, who must be the one on the tombstone - so its back to rechecking all our data pre 1816.

These Henry's sons of Henry's can drive you up the wall you know.

Their was another daughter on the tombstone we were not aware of as well

Thanks chuck - now the work starts all over again pre 1816

while I remember, some more of the pics....

This is Ribblesdale Street with number 16 on the right.

More pictures of the grave

This will give you an idea of the size and the surroundings. The Church is right in the centre of Burnley.

The station

I am not sure about Bank Top Station as there are 3 train stations in Burnley but this is the one which I would say looks like the best bet.

It could of course be Burnley Central which would be nearer.  This last photograph is taken from the bridge and in the distance you will see a cloud of steam, this is where Rectory Road is running inline with Princess Way.

Hey, chuck, thanks for all those very nice piccys - you are a star.

Sorry, spelt it wrong, it is CUERDEN Street not far from a Railway Station, it is off Curzon Street.

Cuerden Street & 24 Rectory Road, home of Robert Lupton Blakeborough who was the station master at Top Bank Station.

Scanned the 1910 map of Burnley for you - shows location of station and some of the streets mentioned

Cheers for everything Sarah

It looks to me as if the Gravestone says Henry Blakeborough died in 1860 aged 44 years.

I had a nosey as it's lovely to see Chris getting some help after all he does for others on this forum. :D :D

Well done Sarah and Trystan,

Hi Kazza

Sorry, that was a typo - it should have read 1816

Have now modified the posting to read correctly.

Thanks for being so alert

Hi Chris and Leslie,

I had a look for your CUERDEN Street today in Burnley and I am sorry to say there is not a lot left to see  :'( The area has changed a bit with the addition for a very busy road which links up a set of superstores to the town. These have been built around the train station and so have lost some of the streets shown on the map.

Railway Street still exists, untouched although now vacant.  The Public houses at the end of the street are quite grand in style which seems a shame.

The main road runs from North to South past the Iron Works which is now the site of Asda.

I shall try for some photographs next visit.

Don't know if this is the right Henry or not - seems expensive to pay for the wrong information! http://www.clockswatches.com/libb.htm

The other Blakeborough there, Richard of Pateley Bridge reminded me of another site http://www.brianloomes.com/
Brian Loomes is some major expert on clocks and lives at Pateley Bridge which seems to be enough reason to ask him what you want to know.......

Hi Gardener

Thanks for that info and links

Quite agree that £3.80 looks a bit much for what could just be a piece of paper with some dates on them - most of which we probably know anyway.

Filed it away - maybe some time in the future when things are a bit 'flusher' we may consider it - UNLESS someone on these boards already has access to that info.
