Hi
Can anyone give me any information about a Joseph GILBERT.i.e early census(1841/51/61)-burial records etc.
He was born in 1797 in Tallington,the son of William GILBERT and Sarah and married an Elizabeth BAGGERLEY.

Is your father/ son the right way around as in Lincs 1841 Piece 623 1.7 Tallington is

William Gilbert 50 Yrs Carpenter, Elizabeth 45 Yrs, Charles 25 Yrs Carpenter, Ann 20 Yrs and Mary Durham, 13 Yrs./ All b Lincs.
Hubbard, Read, Pinkett, Eastwood, Willetts, Whitehouse, Wilson, Cook(e),Goodman

Hi Robin,
thanks for the email.Unfortunately I don't think these are the right family.Firstly Mary(my ancestor)is too young,secondly the husbands name is wrong.On top of that I'm sort of supposing that if she's on the census he won't be with her as he left her and their 5 children in about 1839 and she and the children were left destitute and had to go into Stamford workhouse.It would be interesting to find out what happened to him though.If she's not on the census proper then she must be on the workhouse census(if they had one).
Mind you It would be a very good bet that you've found someone like Joseph's brother or cousin.

yes thats them.I've now found out that Solomon is a child of Joseph and Elizabeth.He's therefore my ancestor Mary's brother.
