Hi Julia,

It has been a while.  I received three photos I think.  I was just wondering if there were any stories or rememberances from your uncle.   I have not gotten any further with my research in the year that has past.  But it is nice to know someone remembered my family.

Allan,
Thank you.  I don't know if this Divote will link up to Maria, but my search continues.
Nina, I have a family history page of the Granelli's that Julie's uncle sent to us.
No Agostino, but I will pm you with some other names preceding Agostino that may help your search.

Hi,
Looking for relatives of Angelo Granelli.  My grandfather , Ernest, was his brother and immigrated to the United States.  Saw your communication and thought this would be a good place to start.

You are in luck!  The family that owns the Granelli ice cream shop in Macclesfield has some great info, if we are speaking of the same Angelo Granelli b 1882, d 1957 and married to Maria Corrato.  We are linked via Maria, so only by marriage to the Granelli's. I have not fully explored the Granelli line itself.

Peter Devoti, of Granelli Ice Cream, has traced the Granelli family all the way back to the 1500’s in Italy and is a Granelli descendent and was a wonderful help for our side of the family too. Granelli's I believe are from Lavagna Italy and still return often.

the current Granellis in Macclesfield are my cousins...Angelo was my grandfather's brother...they were definitely from Santa Maria Del Taro...Angelo married Veronica Corrota...they had two children, Madeline and Edward.... Madeline  married  Guido Devoti and they had five children...Angelo's brother, Ernest Edward, my grandgfather, left the family at age 15 and immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in New York Harbor...however his entrance has him at the age 20/21...it is possible he worked a few years to earn passage over...he settled in Stamford CT and married my grandmother,  who happened to have the same last name, Lyda Granelli...they had three children...my father was named Edward Ernest Granelli....their last sibling is still alive and still communicates with the Granellis in Macclesfield...my brother and I have just started researching...we have never met our cousins in England....fascinating....my grandfather owned a grocery store but ice cream was always important..to this day we have it almost every night!!

By the way...a while back Peter sent my aunt the lineage traced back to the 1500s with a certification of its authenticity...

Still no linking with my Agostino!  :(

I have found some other information that might help find a link if there is one!  One of Agostino's daughters, known as Maria, but probably Marietta born 1912 in England, went to the USA and married an Arthur Zecchini, a barber in Ohio.  Her mother Margherita Agassi travelled from Genoa, Italy to the USA to live with her daughter in 1946.  Maybe someone knows something about this?

I began this thread (the messages related to this topic) asking for information about Agostino Granelli who lived in Macclesfield in 1918 (and since found out also from 1911).  He is my great grandfather's brother.  If you click on the number 1 from where it says Pages1, 2, 3, 4 above you can read the whole story.  My Granelli family are also from Santa Maria del Taro but nobody has linked them to the ice cream manufacturers although my family says there IS a link.  In fact I was told that one of my great aunts worked in the shop in Macclesfirld in the 1920's (approximately).

The postcard below is the one I refer to and is what made me sure that Agostino was in Macclesfield.  It is from my great grandfather sent during WW1.
