Trying to find more on James and Helen as all i have is the marriage.

Hi Carol

The only Helen Hunter that I can come up with was baptised Penpoint, Dumfriesshire - not too far from Troqueer but  :-\

28 March 1782 d/o William Hunter and Janet Hunter.

The children's names don't fit any naming pattern with these two but there may be more children that just aren't listed. I can't find them on the 1841 for Troqueer.

I am having a lot of problems with the countries in Scotland
Can you tell me are Troqueer, Kirkcudbrighshire and Troqueer, Dumfrieshire the same or close by. Some of my records have these to place names and not knowing anything about Scotland was trying to sort them out.

Troqueer is in Kirkcudbright but just across from Dumfriesshire. It's south of Maxwelltown which is the western extension of Dumfries itself.

If you go to this site:

http://scotlandsfamily.com/parish-maps.htm

and select the parish maps for Kirkcudbright and then for Dumfries, you'll see how close they were.

Many Thanks for the map will have a look
John Laurie and Mary Johnston had the following Children
David Mcburnie Laurie
Mary Scott Laurie
William Johnston Laurie
John Laurie.
John snr's parents were Robert Lawrie and Jean Scott So they followed the naming pattern to some extent

Is this possible for 1841?

Piece: SCT1841/644     Folio: 260 Page: 14
Address: Kelvin Street
James Johnston   55   Iron Moulder Journeyman ( outside census county 1841)
Hellen Johnston   55       Lanarkshire

or am i grasping at straws.

It's an outside possibliliy. There was certainly a move to Glasgow - and elsewhere -  from the rural SW in the time period that you are looking at. Also 55 on the 1841 means 55-59. I'm a bit doubtful about Helen being born in Lanarkshire though, given that they married Troqueer.

See if you can find this couple in the 1851. It will give more info on birthplace.

A bit iffy though  :-\
