Newsome marriage
« on: Thursday 16 November 06 00:02 GMT (UK) »
In the 1891 and 1901 Census Robert Thomas Newsom(e) is listed as having a wife named Ellen.  The 1891 Census shows two children Jane Ann age 3 and Maria age 2 also the 1881 Census shows Robert as single age 15 and unmarried.  Robert was born in South Milford and Ellen was born in Woodlesford.  I have been unable to find marriage information for them so I hope someone can help.

Hi Lanshaw,

I wonder if Robert Thomas could have used the nickname Tom  :-\

There is this marriage,

Tom NEWSOM  Dec Q  1886  Hunslet  v.9b  p.457

other names on page,

Ellen HIRST
Maretta LEE
Walter BOWLAND

In 1891 I can see a Walter BOWLAND with wife Marriett living in Wortley, Yorkshire.

In 1881 I can see an Ellen HIRST born 1863 Rothwell, RG11/4493  f.126  p.26 a servant in Oulton cum Woodlesford and in 1871 I can see an Ellen HIRST born 1862 Woodlesford  RG10/4516  f.113  p.30 with her parents in Oulton cum Woodlesford, let me know if you need details.

This looks like the birth of Jane Ann, if you want to get the certificate to confirm her parents names  :)

Jane Ann NEWSOM  Mar Q  1888  Tadcaster  v.9c  p.789

Regards
Daisy

Hi Daisy and IOW Maiden

Tom Newsom is a good possibillity although in all the census and birth recods I have found he is always a Robert, with or without his middle name.  According to the Yorkshire BMD, Tom and Ellen were married at St. John in Oulton which would fit with both parties since in the 1881 census Robert was working on a farm in Langwith.  It appears that Langwith and Oulton are not too far away.  As to the birth certificate for Jane Ann,  is there a way of getting it as the BMD site has not listed the South Milford area yet?  Daisy, I would appreciate it if you could send me the details of Ellen's parents.

Many thanks for your help, I would never have thought to look for a Tom.
