Greens of Rhosllanerchrugog
« on: Friday 17 November 06 07:08 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyone out there who has an interest in the Green family of Rhosllanerchrugog?
John and Mary Green married the Gresford Church in 1731 and went to live in Moreton Above Ruabon Parish about 1732. They appear to be the first Greens in Rhos and they settled in the Brook St area. He was a collier.
I have a particular interest in John Green born 1816. His father was William according to his marriage record but I havent been able to find his birth record. The only child born in 1816 of a father called William was also called William! I wonder whether he changed his name later.
I'd appreciate any Rhos Green family information.

Hello Mali,
Found this John Green in Ruabon.
Baptism. Feb 5 1813. John S/O William and Sarah Green.  Abode,Rhorllanchrugog. Fathers Occ, Collier.
Also to the same parents.
Born Nov 6. Baptised Dec 25 1803. Sarah.
Born Feb 5 Baptised March 2 1806. Elizabeth.
Born March 9 Baptised March 25 1810. Elizabeth.
I think you'll find the first Elizabeth Died so they name the next Daughter after her.

This could be William and Sarah's Marriage.
Ruabon Sep 14 1801.
William Green(X). of this parish. Sarah Griffiths(X). o t p
Witnesses. Richard Parry. and Edward Jones(X)
(X)=did not sign made mark.

Did John Marry Sarah Jones in 1836 or Mary Savage in 1838?

Hello Paul and thank you very much for your response.

Yes, John (my great great grandfather) did marry Mary Savage in 1838 and yes I believe William and Sarah are his parents.  I had identified his sisters too. However I was looking for his birth in 1816 because that was the date given on later censuses and in a family Bible which did have some other inaccuracies in it (which makes me think it was written much much later). Thanks too for the infomation re William and Sarah's marriage. I had seen those dates but didn't have the names of the witnesses.

I had looked in the baptism records  for 1816 in the Independent Church in Rhos and found a William born to a William and Sarah Green. Clearly he would have had to have changed his name or taken on the name of John later. The John you have found may well be the one I am looking for. Was he baptized in Ruabon Parish Church? Can you please tell me the source of your information?
