Close Family- Peel,Wellington,Ontario

Hi there Dortmund....

Drayton, Ontario...is in "Northern Wellington" County, the link that J.J. gave you for the Wellington County archives should be quite useful....there was also a "Close" family a little farther north, in  the Owen Sound area..."Grey Bruce" County....they were from Ireland tho...may wanna check this website.

My family are also Irish Close's...from Belfast...mind you,  verbal family history indicates there is a connection to England in the early 1800's I have yet to confirm this tho...by chance have you discovered who your Robert's parents were?  My grt grt Grandfather was a James Watson Close b. 13 Aug 1843   Unknown location,  he d. 29 Jul 1889 in Belfast....according to his marriage certificate from 1866, his father's name was John Close, labourer....the part I find interesting....every generation of our family has a James, William, John and Robert.  My Grandfathers family immigrated from Belfast to Guelph, Wellington County, Ontario in 1928.

Yes I know the parents of Robert and his siblings who came to Canada, they are as follows:-

William CLOSE b.1785 Over Silton,Yorkshire, - d.1877 Peel Township. & Barbara GAMBLE b.1796 Helmsley,Yorkshire, - d.1883 Peel Township.

Siblings were , William,James,George,Hannah,Ruth,Ralph,Barbara,Elizabeth.
