Hi rcuser, I had a look for this family yesterday but could not find them on the 61 census or any census after that. Leads me to suspect that maybe Charles died, I found this

Charles Cross
Jun quarter 1852
Frome
5c
389

I looked for Louisa as Cross but could not find her or any of the children except Matilda who was working as an assistant. I could not find a death for her either, so I thought maybe she remarried, I found this and although it took place in Bath its the only thing I could find

Louisa Cross
Dec quarter 1853
Bath
5c
1243

unfortunately it does not tell us who she married. If this is the right Louisa then maybe the children took the stepfathers name.

Here's Matilda in the 61

Frederick Pascoe 27 born Newton Bushel, Devon an assistant draper
Matilda Cross 22 born Frome, Somerset a shop assistant
Sarah Elizabeth Cox 21 born Ringwood, Hampshire a shop assistant
Sarah Francis 17 born Southwick, Wilts a shop assistant
Mary Clement 19 born Corsley, Wilts a general servant

living Cheap Street, Frome, Devon.

Regards
Kate.

Hi Kate,

Many thanks for that and for the time put in searching.

Checked FreeBMD and found an entry which matches Louisa with either Samuel Hutin or William Tucker.

Best wishes
