George SIMMONS - b. Speldhurst

I'm trying to establish the parents of George Simmons, b. 1811 in Speldhurst, Kent.   He moved to East Grinstead after marrying Elizabeth Nye on 8 May 1831 i Speldhusrt (per IGI - but no ref)

Those are the only details I have from various census returns up to 1891.

Does anyone know of any look-up services for Speldhurst?

How did you find them - I did a search on IGI and found nothing!   And if I enter the film number I still can't see him - don't you just love computers!  I can see a few Simmonds but not him.  Am I doing something wrong?

The entries came from the BVRI discs, published by the LDS.

Here are the siblings of George, all in Speldhurst.

I have not found the marriage of a George and Hannah in Kent, but have not looked on the IGI.

I will not tell how many times I wanted to throw this computer out of the window

Much appreciated.
Bizarrely, if I enter film 1469565 , all I get are entries for Southfleet, Kent, and no Simmons!   No wonder Genealogy is so darn difficult!
If you ever do come across George and Hannah's marriage, it would be very much appreciated, especially as my searches return nothing!   Does anyone know if the IGI web-site has less info than the discs that Frances refers to?

Hi Julian,

I have found a burial in St Mary's  Speldhurst on 10 May 1816 for a Hannah Simmons aged 2.

Re the film problems, I always cut and paste just the film numbers, to try and avoid errors. I would hate to send someone off to order a film at the local Family Records Centre (LDS) with the wrong one Often though the whole family has the same reference

If it is of any comfort to you I have family in Speldhurst. All the records checked with certificates after 1837 have all been correct, so I would think the chances would be high yours are....but you never be 100% sure as you will know.

My 3x great grandfather was George Simmons b1811 speldhurst who married Elizabeth Nye in 1832.
I have been finding difficulty finding Georges parents until I discovered by chance the following George Simmons b c1780 married Hannah Young 2/11/1801 Tudeley Kent. They had the following children Sarah b1803 James b1805 d1812 Thomas b1807 Ann b1809 George b1811 Hannah b1814 d1816 Richard b1816 Samuel b1818 Susanne b1821 Charlotte b1824.

Hannah Young's parents were William & Ann

I have no record of George's b1780 parentage

I would be very interested to here from you.

I too found Hannah and George - it's a good match, fingers crossed.
Which of George's children are you descended from - I'm from James, born circa 1834, who married Phillis Roffey.

I am decended from George b1811 who married Elizabeth Nye. The first son George b1833 married Ann Paine from Godstone in 1854 Their first son George b1857 married Sarah Ann Sumner in Ashurst 1884. they had my grandmother Fanny Simmons b1885.If you look on the Sussex Weald website in the genealogy section you will find our Simmons there.

PS Have you got any further with George bc1781. I found him on the 1841 census aged60 Agg Lab no wife but with two daughters Charlotte and Susanne. I think Hannah (wife) may have died in 1839
