Slingo?
« on: Monday 20 November 06 14:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

Just wondered if anyone has come across Slingo? The family came from the Hampshire/Sussex & sometimes Oxfordshire.

My Grandad was dark. His skin was olive & his hair black. All his children were the same (including my Mum). I'm told that this is very common in the family. We were told there was Italian ancestors, yet I've not found any.

My Great Gran wasn't a stranger to hop picking, she took my Grandad. Not sure why as the family had a business, though going back several years the family were always in trouble for poaching etc.

One final thing. Going back there is a Soloman & Vasti.

Any thoughts?

Regards Suzanne.

Hi Suzanne.  The Slingos that you are referring to are my ancestors.  Solomon and Vashti are two of Thomas and Jane's Slingo's children.  Thomas was my greatx2 grandfather.  He was sentenced to 10 years transportation in 1840 for stealing a ewe.  Solomon was sentenced to 3 months hard labour.  If you would like further info let me know.  I have details of the Hampshire Slingo's going back to 1770.  \
