ELizabeth Brown (nee McQueen) St Ninnians
« on: Monday 20 November 06 19:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I think I have identified my 5xGreat Grandmother as Elizabeth Brown (nee McQueen) from Stirling.  I have pulled her death extract from Scotlandspeople. She died in Janurary 1856 in St Ninnians, however it stated she was a widow with no mention of her husdbands name.  She was 82 when she died and the death was registered by a neighbour.  The death extract states that she was buried in the Church yard of St Ninnians (certified by James Archibald gravedigger).

Would there be a parish record of her burial and would it mention her husbands name?

I would assume that she was not well off and unlikely to be a headstone, but on the off chance are the any MI's available for this graveyard could some one point me in the right direction or check for me.

Many thanks

Ore Dragon

3. WILLIAM BROWN Christening: 02 JAN 1812 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland

Thanks Monica,

I am a decendant of Elizabeth Brown. When she died the informant was her brother William Brown, so this ties up with the information I have.

Hello Ore-Dragon

The MIs are usually pre-1855 so there may not be a note of a headstone for Elizabeth Brown even if there had been one, unless her husband died first and there was one for him. In that case she'd be included in the entry for him. There are no OPRs for the burials in St Ninians Old Graveyard, but it's possible that Stirling Council Archives have a burial register for the parish church. They have a contact email on Stirling Council's website.

Best wishes

Hannah
