Hi

You haven't given any details for Thomas - where was he born and when.  Did they have any children living with them in 1881?

Hi Carole
Thanks for getting back to me.  Sorry I forgot to give details of Thomas.

Thomas was born  1836 in Hempstead, Gloucestershire, on the 1881 census' his occupation is shown as a carpenter/joiner, there are no children shown.  However, they do have a boarder Joseph Compton.

Hope this helps you trace them - and thank you for your help.

Hi Lizzy

I've looked at all Thomas Smith's born 1834-1838 Gloucester and only a couple have a wife Elizabeth.  However, ages and birthplace for Elizabeth were different.

There were 2 without wives but neither was a carpenter.

I also did the same search but using Hempstead as the birthplace.  Most of the matches were Hemel Hempstead and none fitted the profile

Carole

Thank you for taking the time to look at this for me - I know it is very difficult with a name like Smith!

I have only just found this couple and not really looked to deeply into the family yet, so it was a bit of a fishing expedition.  Your help has been appreciated.  Will do a bit more digging.

Thank you

Lizzy :D

Hi Valan

Sorry I haven't responded earlier but I haven't logged on for a while.

Thank you for the census info on Thomas, this certainly looks hopeful.

Any other information you can find would be very welcome.

Thank you
