Gawd, there's at least four different threads going for this (basically) same request.

Yes there are a lot of threads for this and I have had a great deal of help but a lot of the old threads include a lot of information that I thought was right and have just found out was wrong. I am sorry if putting on more threads has offended anyone but as I have said I am trying to help a friend who is 78 years old and not in good health so I am doing anything I can to help her.

Thank you aghadowerey for those census I will try and follow them through and see what I get. Yes I realise that the age on marriage certificate could be wrong it does not correspond with her death registration. (just sent for death certificate). The death registration in march quarter 1933 says she was 50 years old which makes her year of birth c1883.

Hi Christine

I can sympathise, you are anxious to get the information.

What would be considerate at this point would be to choose one thread, gather all the information that you now believe to be true and update that thread.  Then put a link to that thread on your other threads and lock them.

otherwise you might find that people get annoyed when they have spent time looking for things that are already clear from another thread.

If you need help to do this, please ask a Mod - whoever is on will try to help.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Arranroots,

Is it possible to delete the messages Christine tells you she does not require and merge those containing relevent information?

All the Best, Chris

Christine- if you can find Miriam Liley in 1901 English census it should give birthplace. (Don't think there would have been many coal miners in Ireland but if the family was from Ireland perhaps her father William became a coalminer when he went to England?
If you can't find Miriam's father in 1901 census perhaps the family will be in 1891 census?

Do you not think there is a possibility of the guy mining coal in Ireland ???

John Gerrard, H.M.Inspector for the Manchester District showed tables of Irish coalfields in his Report for 1896

The Coal Mines of County Leitrim, Province of Connaught—1896

The Coal Mines of County Roscommon, Province of Connaught—1896

The Coal Mines of County Sligo, Province of Connaught—1896

The Coal Mines of County Kilkenny, Province of Leinster—1896

The Coal Mines of Queen's County, Province of Leinster—1896

The Coal Mines of County Tipperary, Province of Munster—1896

The Coal Mines of County Antrim, Province of Ulster—1896

The Coal Mines of County Tyrone, Province of Ulster—1896

Sources:

Coal Mining and Canal Building in Co. Tyrone in the 18th and 19th Centuries. by Hugh McGough.

Peak District Mines Historical Society. Ireland's Mining Industry in 1896 - An Index

Now for my next trick I'll bring a family called Liley out of Griffiths Valuation of Co. Sligo 1858

Martin Liley, Rinnarogue, Cloonoghil, Sligo
Martin Liley, Ballynaraw, North Cloonoghil, Sligo

The Sligo coal mine was at Ballynashee.

Chris

No - if it were possible, I would have done it, but sadly all the posts would be in date order which makes a nonsense of the combined thread.

It is really best to avoid posting multiple threads in the first place ,as the Mods might not notice until they all have answers on them

Chris- I know there was coal, gold, etc. mining in Ireland but based on the fact that Miriam got married in Rotherham, Yorks and that there were Liley/Lilleys in Rotherham, many of whom worked in coal mines I looked in census records- all Liley/Lilleys there seemed to be born in either Staffordshire or Yorkshire. It's unfortunate that Miriam hasn't been easy to find in English census records to acertain her place of birth.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
