Trouble reading a Will
« on: Wednesday 22 November 06 18:02 GMT (UK) »
I have downloaded a Will from the national archives, which seems to mention some of my ancestors. It is rather long (which is great as it appears to mention a silk coat and silver spoon which I find fascinating), but I'm having trouble reading it and making complete sentences.

Am I able to insert an image of it on this board without infringing copyright, and if so, will some kind person help me out?

Pip

Pip

You should be able to download an image of the will on this board.  If you can't put it on the Common Room.

There are lots of people here who will be able to help you with the will, I have transcribed 6 wills now with the help of rootschatters!

I think copyright would prevent you posting the entire will however you could post parts of the will that you are finding difficult or think might contain vital pieces of information.

Thanks both.
I shall upload some key sections which I hope will have the most useful details in.  Elizabeth is a widow and I think she appointed her son Richard Beaver as executor of her Will. From what I can tell Elizabeth  left some things to Richard, some to Richard’s son Richard, some to her son’s son’s wife,  some to her son’s grandson, some things to Ann Higgins and Susanna Beaver. I am trying to work out who all the people are in relation to Elizabeth and think the missing words might explain.

This is the first part when the Will makes specific gifs and then a bit later when more people are mentioned.

Susannah Beaver and Ann Higgins are her 'two daughters'.
Most of the references to relations are preceded by the word 'said', so it says 'said son' not 'son's son'.

All the families I am researching are listed on the main page here:

Thanks Richard.

That has helped a lot! There is no "Son's Grandson" just "said grandson".  :)
