Which Registration District
« on: Wednesday 22 November 06 19:13 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please clarify for me which registration district Handsworth Woodhouse comes under.

The reason is I have been unsuccessful in finding a birth for Ann Stuart (18 on 1861 census, 41 on 1881 census) - the 1881 gives her place of birth as Handsworth Woodhouse
I think I need to start looking at other possible surnames but want to limit the search a little.

Regards

Thanks for you responses.

I'm afraid I can't find her birth anywhere  in Sheffield so looked for a marriage on Freebmd. Found one for Ann Scott or Ann Stott in Chesterfield 1862 which leads to another question. (she was living in the Chesterfield  area in 1861 and later)

Perhaps someone can help me a bit more.   I see that there is both an Ann Scott and an Ann Stott with the same  marriage refs i.e. date, district/vol/page.
Are the names on the freebmd database transcribed from original docs?  so could this Scott or Stott possible be my Ann Stuart?

If you use the freebmd on www.ancestry.co.uk there is a link from each name to take you to the GRO page from which it was transcribed....

O.K. - just looked there and still looks strange as they've got an Ann Scott and Ann Stott on the original docs.

1862 records will have 4 couples/page. (i believe)

There are four women and as yet, only one man transcribed.

Well spotted - maybe just a coincidence that the two Ann's have such similar names.

I thought I might have been onto something but will have to be patient and wait for rest of the transcriptions.

(My Ann Stuart seems to be missing from birth and marriage entries - just unlucky I guess)

Thanks for your guidance.
