Hi. My ancestry also includes a Rawlinson family in Liverpool around this time. It's possible they were connected to yours, if you could trace them back a generation or two.

My great-grandmother was Catherine Rawlinson, born Liverpool in 1862. Her only Rawlinson brother was Thomas (b 1852).

Their father was George Rawlinson, born Liverpool 1830/31, and he also had a brother Thomas (b 1833/34). Going back one more generation, I believe my great-great-great grandfather was yet another Thomas.

This family came from the Garston/Much Woolton area, and George worked as a carter and docker.

I don't know if you've come across this yet, but I discovered during my research that the family's name was spelled in several different ways - including Rawlinson, Rollinson, Rollison and Rolingson. Very confusing!

Good luck,

Steve

Dave, this looks like your family on the 1891 census:

95 Portland Street, Liverpool
Sub District: St Martin
Ecclesiastical Parish: St Titus

RAWLINSON, George Head   Married   M 38 Carter b. Liverpool
RAWLINSON, Susan Wife     Married F  35       b. Liverpool
RAWLINSON, John      Son              M  16 Labourer General    b. Liverpool
RAWLINSON, Henry  Son             M  13 Scholar    b. Liverpool
RAWLINSON, Elizabeth   Daughter  F  11  Scholar    b. Liverpool
RAWLINSON, Alice   Daughter     F    9    Scholar    b. Liverpool
RAWLINSON, George    Son        M   4           b. Liverpool
RAWLINSON, William   Son         M     3            b. Liverpool
RAWLINSON, Mary         Daughter      F   18M      b. Liverpool
RAWLINSON, Samuel   Son       M   1M         b. Liverpool
FREEMAN, John C         Boarder        M   13  Labourer  b. Liverpool

I realise you listed a son called George who was born in 1892 and therefore shouldn't appear on this census. However, it was quite common for children to die at a young age, and for a subsequent child to be given the same name. This happened with my great-grandmother.

Hope that helps.

Steve
