Michael, have just realised I don't know where Windau is (where the Constance was wrecked), do you?

Shame on you Barbara, not knowing that. You must have napped during your geogha lessons .LOL

I didn't know either bu Granda Geordie Google told me it is now called VENTSPILS, in Latvia.... important cos it was ice-free.

Danny Kay as Hans Cristian Anderrson sang about sailing up there, up around Denmark into the Skaggerack passage, then into Baltic sea.

Blyth and Tyne ships traded coal a lot to that region.

I consider myself suitably chastised, my Granda Boro Google couldn't find it  :-[
By the way, one of my Bergens disguised as a Burgee married a Quack, so I've now got the connection, hooray

I've just come across a beautiful letter written by Captain W.C. Bergen of the Barque Constance, published in the Morpeth Herald of 25 November 1865 page 5.

J[ames] Wright who perished along with the captain´s son was a relative of mine.
