Hello Welsh Jen

I see you are researching a George Miller and Catherine Thomas. I also have a George Miller who married a Mary Ann Thomas, father James. I know the two families are not connected, but wondered if in your research you found my George. I have searched BMD and Ancestry, but cannot find his birth

1891 census living
7 Roberts Street, Roath, Cardiff
George Miller          head 30 yrs general labourer  born Cowbridge
Mary Ann (Thomas) wife  21yrs                              born Llangynwyd, Maesteg
William John           Son   2days old

1901 census 11 Roberts Street

Mary Ann           Head       32yrs
Elizabeth           Dau           8yrs                             born  Cardiff
George H          Son            4yrs                                      Cardiff
Arthur   J            Son           2yrs                                       Cardiff

1901 census

George Miller      S/law       38yrs                             born Cambridge
William J             G/son         9yrs                                      Cardiff
on day of census George, william were at  their in laws house

George age 38yrs married Mary Ann Thomas age 21yrs at Bridgend Registry on 16 July 1891, both living at Temple Street, Maesteg

1891 census George age 30yrs
1891 marriage cert    age 38yrs
1901 census George age 38yrs born Cambridge

On marriage cert George's father was Thomas Miller deceased Trade general lab:
Witness X the mark of James Thomas and Thomas C Thomas
George also signed with X

Mary Ann Thomas born c 1870 - 73 parents James born c 1846 Little Haven Pem: Elizabeth born c 1844  Southwick, Pem:
James parents were John Thomas born c 1820 Walton, Pem: Mary, Pem:
As you can see both are families use the same names but are not related (strange)

Found plenty of Georges but none born Cowbridge, things would be easier if he had the same year of birth and the same town on all documents,
Thankyou for any leads you can send me
John

Don't know whether this information is of use to you but, my grandmother lived on Pentregethin Road and about approx. 12 houses away was a property known as Ty Gwyn (White House).   It could be what you are looking for because is isn't very far from St. Johns Road.  It is still there but don't know whether it has been renamed over the years.  My grandmother knew the owners in the 60's, and I remember a doctor living there.  It is fairly easy to find because there is a big gap between Ty Gwyn and the next house because there is an opening which leads on to what is locally known as The Racecourse.

House numbers can't be entirely relied on either because I know renumbering took place many years ago.  Another change worth mentioning -  while I was growing up, the location was also renamed from Manselton to Gendros.

It might be worth mentioning also that there is a Pwll-y-Domen Road which still exists in Manselton.  I don't know whether there are cottages there.
