Staionmasters at Leeds Station
« on: Monday 27 November 06 14:43 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know where I can get details on past stationmasters at Leeds Station?

The particular chap I'm interested in is Thomas Scatchard, who was stationmaster at some point during between 1901 and 1951.

Thanks

You can't narrow that down a bit, can you? Because there there three companies he could have worked for over that period. And it's unusal to be a station master for 50 years - he is likely to have worked his way up from porter.

When was he born - we can make some inspired guesses calculate his career development?

Hello Meles

I know that Thomas was a porter at Ripon in 1891 and 1901 as he was living with my gt grandfather, George Anderson,  at the time. Thomas was born in 1870, so if we assume "normal" retirement age, he would have retired sometime around 1935-6. That, at least narrows the dates down a bit. Other than he married in 1910, with the marriage registered at Knaresborough, I've no other information.

OK, initial research - in 1891 Ripon Station, and the lines it served, was owned by the North Eastern railway company (NE). The company was taken over by the London and Noth Eastern Railway company (LNER) in 1923.

So those are the companies you need to Google. I will also have a look.
