How do I take Henry back a generation
« on: Tuesday 28 November 06 08:30 GMT (UK) »
I have hit the proverbial brickwall.

I have Henry Howard who according to all the census records up to his
death in 1872 suggest that he was born Haughton Lancashire c 1809/1811.
He married Nancy Crabtree at Manchester Cathedral. Henry is shown as a
hatter. The problem is that no age is shown for either of them, no
father's names no place of residence and the witnesses were church
officials.

I noted on IGI the following HENRY HOWARD
Born:    August 10, 1809
Baptized:  September 24, 1809
Ashon Under Lyne, Lancs.
Parents:    Joseph & Betty Howard

it is a member submission so I do not trust it
Henry & Nancy had children Hannah, Jane, Joseph & Elizabeth so the
parents of Henry shown as Joseph & Betty on the IGI do look a possible
link.

Would he not have been baptised at either Haughton or Denton?

Does anyone have access to parish records for either of these who would be willing to do a lookup for me.

I would like any suggestions as to how  I determine whether this is my
Henry.

regards

dinkey

Hi

The 1841 census shows Henry's children as being, William 10, Hannah 9,
Jane 8, 1851, Joseph 7, Elizabeth 5.
The earliest Church that I can find in Haughton was built in 1811. Haughton is only three quarters of a mile from Denton.

Thank you for your reply.
Hi

There is a marriage for a Joseph Howard and Elizabeth Kenworthy,
14 September 1801, Manchester Cathedral.

These marriage records I have found give virtually no information so I am not sure how I can determine whether Joseph Howard & Elizabeth Kenworthy are Henry's parents.

Hi

The earliest Church that I can find in Haughton was built in 1811. Haughton is only three quarters of a mile from Denton.

Does this make it more likely that this is the correct baptism for Henry at Ashton under Lyne in. 1809

The familysearch site gives batch number   7124513. Does anyone know how I find out which church in AUL the baptism took place.
