That's a great find, Annie! These would all be protected historical homes...( houses don't stand for hundreds of years like they do in England, our weather is harsh, and not everyone wants the cost of renewing the older homes...A local heritage group has stepped in to make sure those that remain are not demolished)
I was just at the archives and thought that the drawer for big wigs would be chock full of Riley info...but only one of an Isaac...Was there an Isaac on the list of family?
I am sure there is information in there, but would have to search it out....so if there is ever anything specific you'd like me to look for, I'll give it a go...Just let me know!

Wow, there's the name Donald A. Smith again...Note how it says he owned the property at the conjunction of the rivers?...Well he was a landsman for the Hudson's Bay Co, and he actually took the that land away from hubby's ancestor and her family ( among others) after her husband "died". ( A riverman for 20 years somehow "drowned" in December!  ) He had been given the land as a reward for all his years of HBCservice, but his wife was part aboriginal, and he died intestate plus he'd not secured a patent on the land but guess who did right after the death???
The "honourable" Donald A. Smith"...

Sorry to use your query for my rant but I am so sick of not being able to find anything on some people who should truly be honoured within history, but this turkey's name keeps jumping out at me!

Hi Annie, J.J., and MaryA,

I thought it was time to close the circle a little. I have made huge progress on this family thanks to you all, with consecutive census records and entries in trade directories that I can now recognise as the children of Isaiah.

Among other things, I still have to prove that the Isaiah baptised at Cottingham to Francis and Hannah is the same Isaiah who married Ann CHAPMAN in 1803, but RT Riley's Memoirs are now a foundation reference for my evolving biography on the RILEY family, now at 90-odd pages and 30,000 words.

Again, many thanks for all those finds.

Kind regards, riley
