Leeds Co-Operative Society

Does anyone know anything about the history of this society, I have found a lot of modern bits but not much for the early part of last century. I know it was founded in 1847 and became the countries largest.

I think my G-Grandfather might have been quite high up in the company in the first half of the 1900's, as we have a plaque - wanted to know if there was a more detailed history anywhere.
Charlewood - Ireland, Antrim, Liverpool, Leeds
MacDonald - Glasgow, Lanark
Young - Edinburgh
Douglass - Ireland, Antrim
Flisher - Sandgate, Lydd
