A Hero in the family.
« on: Thursday 30 November 06 18:21 GMT (UK) »
hi all,
At my parents house they have a wooden stick given to my great granddad Benjamin Whitehead Taylor, he was presented with this stick by members of oldham borough police force. the full reading on the stick is as follows " Presented to Ben.W.Taylor by the members of oldham borough police force in recognition of valuable assistance. Rendered by him appraising a violent prisoner on the 2nd February 1918. My family have no more details then that, It would be wonderful if show how it could be found in an old newspaper report perhaps in oldham.
any help would be appreciated from
Day tay.

hi Dinkey,
Many thanks for your reply I have E-mailed them but no reply and that was about three weeks ago, so if anyone is going to any of the above places I would be most grateful if you could look this up for me.
Thanks once again for your Reply,
Dan tay.

Hi Dan,
try contacting the Greater Manchester Police History Society:
http://www.gmp.police.uk/mainsite/pages/history.htm

I'm sure they may be able to help.  They should have old record books - and maybe even a photo!!

You never know.

Good luck.
