Hi Vicky

There are three children listed for Henry Lea and Lydia Batchelor in the IGI : Mary 1761, Betsey 1764 and Ann 1766 but I suppose you already have these?  The surname has been logged as Lay though not Lea.

Have also found marriages for a John Lee :

John Lee m. Mary Lawrence Hemel Hempstead 1739
John Lee m. Mary Camfield Hemel Hempstead 1771
John Lee m. Mary Day Ippollits 1769

Are any of these of interest?

Regards

Happy hunting

Hi Vickie,

I trawled through the Great Berkhampstead Parish records
and found the baptism of Henry Lea s/o Henry and Alice on 24th September 1732.   Also the marriage of Henry Lay otp and Lydia Batchelor otp by banns on 12th November1759 witnessed by James East (Church official) and Rose Lay.  Another entry records the marriage of John  Lee of Northchurch and Mary Cooper of Gt.B. on 10th November 1760 witnessed by Elizabeth Johnson, John Chappell and James East.

Hope this helps.

yes it does help ..gives me Henry"s actual baptism date and date of marriage....don't know about marriage for John though.....if my Henry is his son then they need to have been married about 1755 or so....can u tell me where Cheshunt is in Hertford because i have found a Henry born 1855 in Cheshunt to John & Mary  but unsure if this is close to Grt.Berk. or not...
thanks for your help

Hi Vickie,

Cheshunt is on the southern border of Hertfordshire and straddles the main A10 London-Cambridge road and across to the River Lea which is the Essex border.  Its neighbour on the A10 is Enfield, formerly in Middlesex but now one of the northern boroughs of the Greater London Area.

My crow tells me that when he last flew from Cheshunt to Great Berkhampstead he clocked up 24 miles.
