Area of Horsforth, near Leeds, 1861
« on: Friday 01 December 06 15:02 GMT (UK) »
One of my husband's ancestors was living at what looks like Catmire in Horsforth at the time of the 1861 census. Does anyone have any idea whereabouts in Horsforth this was, and does it still exist, please?

Naylor - Flockton, Drighlington, Heckmondwike
Goodall - Batley
Beaumont - Batley/Birstall
Blackburn - Clayton

Hello mjm

The route taken by James Hutchinson the enumerator in 1861 was, Wesley Chapel House - part of Outwood Lane - Gragg Lane Hill including Burley Lane - Mr Watsons houses Catmire and Lower Bank House.

A modern map will show you Outwood Lane, Burley Lane and Cragg Hill. Wesleyan Chapel and or House may still be standing. No mention of Catmire but it will also have been a lane or yard.
