Does anyone know where Newry is in Ireland??
« on: Saturday 02 December 06 18:28 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone,

I am trying to find the marriage of my great grandparents John Carney and Mary Kennedy and also the birth of my grandmother Mary Caney who I have been told come from Newry in Ireland.

I don't know where this is in Ireland and how I can find the marriage and birth, I have the year they were married and the year of my grandmother birth.  Can any help please?.

Elizabeth

Hi Lep,

Thanks for your reply, I don't know anything about Ireland just doing my family tree and found out my grandmother was born there and her parents were married there.  I have the year of the marriage and birth, any idea how I can search for these.

Elizabeth.

Marriages for newry come under Parish Magheralinn [Dromore] Co, Down
They are held in National Library Ireland.

Hi Lep,

Sorry but I have just finished my hubby's English relatives and got back to County Monaghan in Ireland and then I was stuck!!  Been trying to find them  for over a year.

Now looks like my Scottish family are from Ireland too and I am stuck again.

Hi Elizabeth and Lep,
It occurs to me that Newry, Co. Down is part of the United Kingdom.  Does it not follow from that fact that census information for there would be available on Ancestry.co.uk, just as records for the British "mainland" are?  I know that you can get a 14-day free trial of Ancestry by creating an account - I did so a while ago.  Do they not include records for the Six Counties?

If you can wait a few weeks a census for Ireland is coming out free online.
The 1911. For Marriage the 1911 census records the number of years each couple as been married, the number of children born and the number of those living. This information is useful in narrowing down the range ofyears to be searched  for aparticular marriage.
