i am looking for info on John William Tiplady who served in the highlanders around 1914 to 1918.
he may have been a RSM.
i maybe in the wrong forum so please go easy on me.

Hi Gary !

No question is a daft one !! 

Depending on what's on the card - it will give what medals John was entitled to .. it may give the date he went to France  .... if he was wounded etc ........ it won't give any family information ..... but if you look here themonstar has read this card .....

i have no info other than a vague dob which i have posted in another section.
from what i read in themonstars post it would seem he would have a war pension.
therefore can i search the pensions if so where.
this is really a starting point for me and have reasonable knowledge of getting around the net.
this thou seems to be a complete learning curve for me.
i am guessing that with help from here that once i follow john i can pick up the way it works .
ive only been trying this a few days and i am getting a bit of a bug for it.
even thou i have not found nothing for myself yet.

Did you download John's card ? it costs 3 pounds 50 ..
if you do .... post it here and lets see what we can find out - OK ?

You might look through some of the Armed Forces Resources ...... it helps to read through things  ( I've found ! ) it gives you a better idea !!

annie,
i didnt download it.
i was just assuming that because he was badly injured he would have a war pension.
his injuries caused his death or so im told.
the thing is i can download so much info but it is a case of how much is relevant.
i dont think at this point his medals are that relevant.
it is something i will come back to as this is my direct line.
i have now been nominated to do the wifes side as well as mine .
so i am really at the beginning of a long haul.
i am not complaining i think i will really get into this,but you cant really afford to pay every time you find a small connection.
but this line has more significance to me so it will be my baby if you get my meaning.
