MOXON in Thorpe Hesley
« on: Sunday 03 December 06 12:28 GMT (UK) »
Advice please :-\

Have found Charles Thomas Moxon b. abt 1885 Thorpe Hesley, Yorkshire (father believed to be Edward).  He is in Shirebrook Notts/Derbys in 1901 - coal mining link.

Where is Thorpe Hesley and on which 1891 census would it be??

Any help appreciated
Knellie

Thorpe Hesley and Kimberworth are just outside Rotherham in what is now South Yorkshire.  They were formerly in the West Riding.

Hi

Farley Moxon here,

I'm the youngest son of Graham Moxon, Grandson of Percy Moxon and Janie Moxon who I believe lived at 50 Thorpe Street, Thorpe Hesley.

Hello Farley

Lots of MOXON's in Thorpe Hesley so I'm not sure how we might be linked - as always families used names of brothers for sons. However this may be your 'Percy' & his family in Thorpe Hesley on 1901 Census at 80 Thorpe Street (the 1911 Census records them at No. 50 and the family possibly had a fish 'n' chip shop)
George Henry MOXON 36yrs
Kate MOXON 36yrs
Charles Henry MOXON 14yrs
Arnold MOXON 14yrs
Larrat MOXON 10yrs
Ernest MOXON 7yrs
Annie Elizabeth MOXON 9yrs
Percy MOXON 2yrs

Regards
Knellie

Hi Knellie,

Thank you for that info, that is my family! I've had a look at those census' too, it's brilliant to uncover things I've never known before.

I know that coal mining was a big tradition throughout the generations too and the family seems to be rotherham based throughout.

Thank you
