George UTTERIDGE m. 1862
« on: Sunday 03 December 06 14:37 GMT (UK) »
I’ve been looking at the Utteridge family for some time.  Using the Cambridge FHS fiches, I’ve got back to the marriage of George Utteridge and Sarah Crane on 7th Feb 1762 in Swavesey.  The Swavesey parish register records them as both being “of this parish” but I can’t find any entries relating to Utteridges earlier than this marriage.  Utteridges also seem to be invisible in the surrounding Cambridgeshire parishes - so it may not be simply a missing entry.  I suspect that he and his ancestors originate in a neighbouring county (the Huntingdon border isn’t far off).

Anyone got any suggestions??  Any help/advice would be welcome.

Regards

Hi
Welcome to rootschat.     The "of this parish" bit means at the time of the marriage so you are probably right that you will have to spread your net a bit wider.   Long task ahead!   Have you checked to see if anyone is doing a one name study?
Good luck.
Andrea

Hi

Something else you could do is look at the distribution of Utteridges in the 1841 - on the basis that some may have stayed in that area.

Chatteris, Cambridge (St Andrews) & Peterborough account for most of the 23 entries that come up.
