Photo of Appleby family Christchurch 1883

Hello everyone,

Amongst some old family photos, I've found several of the Appleby family of Christchurch. I'm not aware of a connection with my family, they may have been distant cousins or simply old friends who emigrated.
If anyone can shed any light on this family, I'd be very interested. If I can find an Appleby descendant, it would be great to reunite them with the photos.

The details I have are:
Arthur b. 5/7/1870
Leonard b. 11/5/1872
Godfrey b. 22/1/1874
Hubert b. 21/5/1877
Raymond b. 18/8/1881
I assume all born Christchurch, I've checked English bmd's.

I also have a photo of Arthur Appleby, possibly their father and a girl Alice Appleby.
Can anyone help?

Arthur Appleby (15.7.1870) is my great grandfather! I would love to see the photo you have but seem to have difficulty viewing it on my computer.  You are right in that they were all born in Christchurch.  I have just got back from a holiday in NZ, though I live in the UK, and found out all the information that you have recorded so of course I am curious as to how you have similar information.  Are you an Appleby as well?  I am not as Arthur was my grandmother's father, though my mother's cousins are all Applebys via Arthur.  He was a singer and set up a singing school in Christchurch and then toured the world giving various concerts. I know nothing of the other brothers.

His father (also Arthur) must have been the pioneer as I believe he arrived in New Zealand in 1867 from Burton on Trent.  He married in 1869 and he and his then wife, Amelia, produced four sons - Herbert being the last of them - before she died in 1879.  Last week in NZ we actually visited her grave, which was a strange experience as I had not known of her existence until that day.  Arthur senior remarried an Alice Mary Barnett and they produced a further son, Raymond.  I would love to see both photos you have as I might be able to help identify the people.

Great to hear from you! I'd almost given up hope of finding  an Appleby descendant.
I now see that the connection is the Barnett family.
I haven't scanned the photos yet, but will send you a PM to arrange this.

I am the Great Grandaughter of Raymond Appleby, Grandaughter of Arthur Desmond Appleby. I would love to track down any photos you may have as I'm trying to compile a visual history (possibly a book of the family history in the making) for my mother who unfortunately has very few photos of her extended Appleby family. I am trying to locate any photos of Alice Mary Appleby (nee Barnett)  and others and any written information that you may have.
