Re: Questions Regarding Old Newspaper Reports about Suicides

I have a local newspaper clipping for a coroner's report for a death which was not nearly as exciting as a suicide!  An elderly lady left the gas on by mistake and died.  The clipping was preserved by family, so I didn't have to go hunting for it.
So, I would assume that such a dramatic suicide would be duly recorded in the press, perhaps even on the date it occurred, or the day after, as well as at inquest.

You know you're addicted when a newspaper report of a suicide seems like a Christmas present!! ???

Hi,
Anyone else besides genealogists etc  would think it's a bit weird I suppose  :D. lol
I won't get  it for a  few weeks though, as I have to send off the money to them by slow mail.

Incidentally, the cost I need to pay them  to get a copy of the report sent out to me is only 1.50 (which I think  this maybe is just for the cost of the postage  to Aus, everything else was free ) - Thank goodness I did not try  the service at  Colindale first at 50 pounds a look up.

So it is certainly worth writing to the local library first, mind you I would pay 50 pounds for the report too - My main worry was  paying 50 pounds just  for a look up in the papers and  then to find that there was no record of it in the papers- ie  a lot of money down the drain.

Kind Regards :)
