Help needed 1901 census
« on: Wednesday 06 December 06 01:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for Samuel William Frederick Thompson, born 12 march 1895, aldershot, Hampshire, father - Samuel Thompson and mother Emily wishall.
Samuel senior was a laborer. (all off his birth certificate)
The story goes that Samuel WF Thompson's parents died when he was a young child and he went into a Bernardo's home for boys in London and then he was brought out to Australia where he changed his name to William Frederick Samuel Thompson.
On his ww1 military record - he joined the army in Qld, Australia but his next of kin was his stepbrother Herbert Smith living in surrey england. It also stated that he had done a 5 year apprentice as a wheelwright with Dr Bernardo's homes, London.
I can't find any Emily Wishall  born or married in England and I can't find deaths for Samuel and Emily that fit.
And I can't find any of them on the 1901 census.
He come out to Australia before 1916, but was in england long enough to do a 5 year apprentership.
Any help would be great before I go crazy
Thank you
Megan

Hi, Some very kind person suggested to me to change the title of my subject.
I am unsure how to move this message to the census page, so I am sorry It is now on the wrong page. I am hoping someone out there can help me find this family in the 1901 census.  I now know that there also is a Pauline Thompson born 1891 in sheffield, Yorkshire (samuels sister) A family member suggested to me that they might have gone to Scotland, but I am not sure if there is a Scotland census available for 1901.
Samuel and Pauline's parents are dead by 1901 so it would be the 2 children with relatives? or in a bernardo's home.
Hoping someone can help.
Kind regards
Megan

Hi Megan,
this isn't 1901 so you may well have this but I suspect not from your posts:

1891 : RG12; Piece: 3813; Folio 27; Page 9

177 Cambridge Road Heeley Sheffield
Samuel Thompson 30 yrs  railway labourer  b Loughton Essex
Emily  29 yrs   b Shyshot Sussex
Pauline 3 months  b Sheffield Yorks
Herbert Smith step son 4yrs  b Aldershot Hants

so presumably Emily was married as Smith.

best wishes
heywood

Hi, Yes I finaly found that info yesterday. My mystery is where did the children go when the parents died?
The brother Herbert Smith - I think I found in Jail, but his age is wrong - but more interested in Samuel and Pauline.
Thank you for your help
