1861 and 1871 Lookup for the name FULFORD in YORKSHIRE
« on: Tuesday 16 November 04 13:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I know that my great great grandad John Fulford b.1847 was born in White Heath/ Rowley, Staffordshire but then at some point moved to Darfield/Hemsworth in South Yorkshire. I know he was definitely in Yorkshire by 1873 cos he had a son there. I need to know exactly what year he moved though so i can find out which county im supposed to be looking in to find out about John Fulford's parents and siblings - he's a major brickwall at the mo.
If anyone could see if a John Fulford b.1847 White Heath/Rowley, Staffs was in Yorkshire in 61 or 71 that would be great...In 1871 he could well be married to a Mary A. Fulford b.1847 Oldbury, Staffs.
I think he was most likely still in Staffs till about 1865 cos his wife was born in Staffs also so he probably met her there and then moved, but im only guessing so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks very much
Alison

Yes.
1881 census:
John Fulford b.1847 in White Heath, Staffs
coal miner
Head of Household
married to Mary A . Fulford
Children: Deborah, James, Clara and John Thomas.
this census was taken in Brampton Bierlow, West Riding.
John Fulford was obviously the one who moved from Staffs to Yorkshire. I think he probably made this move after he'd met his wife Mary cos she's from Oldbury, Staffs as well. I know they were definitely in Yorkshire by 1873 cos their daughter Deborah was born there.

1901 census:
John Fulford b.1847 All Church, Worcestershire- i know the birth places are different but this IS the same person. Its very complicated but basically i found out the difference in places of birth is down to county borders shifting slighty over the years - but its definitley the same person. Everything matches.
coal miner hewer
Lodger - i found that all his family were lodging with the Mulligan family in Hemsworth, (West Riding)
married to Mary A. still
2 daughters: Sally, 11 b. in South Kirby, and Mary, 15 b. in Monk Bretton - both villages nearby Hemsworth.
Administrative COunty: Yorkshire West Riding
Civil Parish: Hemsworth
Do you need page numbers and folios etc?
Thanks very much
Alison

No sign of him in Yorks; maybe he's in Staffordshire in 1871.
