« on: Wednesday 06 December 06 14:43 GMT (UK) »
Lucy Davies was the 1st landlady of the kings arms in Salford 1883- I have found a lucy Davies (nee white born 1854 oldbury worc.)
on the 1891 census as a dress maker and not sure if it is the same one - Any one know where I can find out info on publicans/inns etc and see how long she was at the salford arms to whether the 1891 is the right person.

Hi Jibriggs
I had a look on the online historical directories last night, the one nearest to 1883 is 1886.Slaters Manchester & Salford There are a few Kings Arms only two actualy in Salford but the propieters are not Lucy
Kings Arms 85 Oldfield Road, Salford.Prop William King.
"       "          Bloom Street  Prop Schofield Cronshaw.
The directories in my library dont cover that part of lancashire or i would a do a look up for you.

There is a set of 3 Neil Richardson Publications called Salford Pubs.

I only have Part 3, but it has a full index of pubs and publicans mentioned in all 3 parts. The Kings pub in Bloom St  is on page 59 of part 1. There is no Lucy Davies in the index but there is a Samuel Davies also on page 59.

They may have a copy at Salford Local History Library.

There are lots of copies of all the chapters of "Pubs in Salford" at Manchester Central library. They are an excellent source of info, they ought to be re-published. Hope you find what you want, Pippa!
