1881 Cenus 3 in 3 Court Lad Lane Liverpool

Can anyone help

My great great great grandfatehr is present on this 1881 census attached. he was James Walker. his profession was Engine Fitter but I don't know in what field or where he was employed.
Also on this census is a John James Hassel or Harris or Halsall? who is also an engine fitter, my belief is that they would be at the same employment, is there any one out there who is tracing this John James

Thanks

Cheers

Thanks Googy, any information is welcome, like I said I only have his address as of the 1881 census. and that he was an Engine fitter. in the 1891 census his 80 Boundary Lane West Derby, is this near to the docks?
I would very much like to understand exactly what his profession was, sadley he died in 1893 following an operation at the Liverpool infirmary aged on 33, so I don'thave much to go on.

thanks

DJER,

It was the age of steam. He could have been working on maritime engines, railway engines, or traction engines.  Lad Lane is close to the docks and was also close to Exchange railway station.  There would have been lots of engines in use at the docks and that is the most likely place for him to have worked. The Courts around Lad Lane and elsewhere in Liverpool were low-cost housing and must have been pretty grim places to live. See http://www.mersey-gateway.org/server.php?show=ConGallery.67 and http://www.mersey-gateway.org/pastliverpool/housing/slums/slums.htm

djer,Boundary Lane,10 mins;from my old home!
A bit up-market from a Court by a country mile,or used to be.
There are,or were,a few factories handy,Barker+Dobson sweet,s,and Ogden,s tobacco.
A better transport system to other factorie,s or down to the dock,s.
As he became more 'mature',(can't spell 'old'!)he would have perhap,s chosen to be able to walk 'round the corner' to work?
Keep going,you'll get there!

Not of Lad Court itself djer, but that last reference you got may have similar type's.(retiring type) ref.
Any good "Old L'Pool" site's should have one.
We have to be careful of copyright law,s so if you want any photo,s they will have to be by Email.
