And second of all .... where did you get your information ?? ..... did it come from the Archives ? Do you have his service record ?

And what are you trying to find out from the medal card ? if it really is his card ? or something else ?

Annie  :) :)

Roadrunner, I have no idea which road you are on but if leads to the NA in Kew you may want to search for his service record.  You may get lucky, I didn't with my dad's so somebody must.   :)

Bob

As I was posting Liverpool Annie had the same idea as me, it must be a good one   ;)

I got the medal card by hard work and diligence. I got the info from the Archives at Hereford, cost me only 5 pounds for some info which I put on Roots. No, I do not have a service record yet. I have just got all this info after a years work. I have been concentrating on the Jones boys who were all killed in WW2. I have two of three birth certs.

Whoops, should have checked your profile before I talked about a road leading to Kew.   :-[

I suppose you know that finding service records of other ranks is a bit of a raffle with about two thirds destroyed by fire in WW2.  Although your bloke would have had a pension which means the records may have been elsewhere.

I'm not too sure all medal cards show the full medals. As children we were sometimes allowed to look at my grandfather's medals - about 5, some with one or two bars.  He was a stretcher bearer in the Army Medical Corp and I know I've got the right medal card but no detail of all the medals.  I was told he was mentioned in dispatches several times but nothing comes up on the London Gazette website.  He had an early release due to mustard gas and I should be awarded a medal for looking thro' goodness knows how many gazette pages trying to find a Shearing who wasn't a sheep  :D :D

Rena
rena,it sounds like your grandfather fought in the boer war,2 of the medals sound like the kings+queens south africa medals, mack
military history,mainly ww1,manchester pals battalions,tyneside irish +tyneside scottish brigades,leeds,liverpool,accrington,birmingham,hull,barnsley,swansea and salford pals.

Hi
5th Battalion KSLI, was formed at Shrewsbury in Aug 1914, it was part of 42nd Bde, 14 (light) Division at Aldershot Nov 1914, Mar 1915 it moved to Chiddingfold then back to Aldershot, On the 20th May 1915 it landed at Boulogne, France. 4th Feb 1918 it disbanded at Jussy, personnel were sent to the 1st,1/4th,6th & 7th Battalions KSLI.

The MIC you have posted id for a soldier who did not go overseas until after 1st Jan 1916, the numbers on the card J/1/102/B13 & J/1050/1 are for the Shrewsbury Record Office code being 'J' 102 being KSLI.

Here are the file numbers you will need for the Medal Roll & SWB Roll, at the NA Kew:

1. BWM & VM = WO329/1480.
2. SWB Roll if the No is J/1050/1=WO329/3093.
3. SWB Roll if the No is J/1850/ =WO329/3097.

Thanks for the great info, but I am not able to go to Kew, can I do the research online as I live in America.
The only thing I can think of, is that my Grandfather switched regiments because he was badly injured early.
Are you telling me that I can apply to
/1/102/B13 & J/1050/1 are for the Shrewsbury Record Office code being 'J' 102 being KSLI. for his records.
Thanks for your time and effort
